Movie Review: Welcome to New York (2014) ~ Dewi Keadilan benar-benar buta

Film ini menceritakan sebuah kisah yang apik tentang seorang pria yang memiliki nafsu seksual tak terpuaskan yang tidak pernah bisa dipadamkan, bahkan pada saat dia terikat dengan masalah hukum yang pelik. Pada akhirnya, kekuatan dan uang, semuanya menjadi satu mengikuti alur yang panjang seperti orang pada umumnya diproses oleh sistem pengadilan di Amerika.

Jika kamu memiliki kekayaan, maka kamu bisa lolos dari tindak kriminal yang paling tak terelakkan. Namun, jika kamu miskin, jangan pernah berharap bisa lolos. Hal ini dikarenakan sistem pengadilan kita sudah sangat rusak dan penuh dengan tindak korupsi.

Dewi Keadilan buta di kedua sisi, bersalah atau tidak itu tidak ada bedanya. Pengadilan hampir tidak bisa menentukan hal tersebut dengan benar dan di sini, kehadiran uang hanya menambah masalah lain.

Gerard Depardieu merupakan sosok yang sangat berani untuk mendokumentasikan dirinya dan dia melakukan hal yang fantastis untuk mengekspresikan emosinya melalui matanya. Dia sesekali menatap kamera, memberi pandangan yang lebih dalam kepada perilaku maniaknya, seks.

Sebuah apresiasi untuk Jacqueline Bisset atas peran hebatnya sebagai istri yang bisa diandalkan. Dalam film ini, sebagai seorang istri dari Depardieu, Bisset lebih memposisikan dirinya sebagai seorang ibu yang melindungi Depardien yang tujuannya untuk melindungi dirinya sendiri, bukan memposisikannya sebagai seorang istri.

Film ini sangat direkomendasikan untuk ditonton.

Oh ya, sentiment yang paling sering diutarakan yaitu “Guilty before innocent (praduga tak bersalah)" di Amerika adalah perlakuan terhadap pelaku yang hanya berdasarkan tuduhan. "You don’t like the cuffs? Too bad asshole. (Gak suka diborgol? Sayang banget loh brengsek.)" merupakan ungkapan miris atas sikap aparat penegak hukum di Amerika.
